SOUTHAMPTON libraries are to close for two days after staff voted to stage another strike over plans to replace workers with volunteers.
The walkout will shut city libraries on Friday and Monday after talks between unions and Southampton City Council ended with Unison members turning down an improved offer.
Librarians voted to reject the council's new deal, which would have seen discussion on the work carried out by the proposed new volunteers as well as consultation on a new staffing structure.
Unison said its action will see most of the library service closed, with pickets outside Central, Shirley, Portswood, Woolston and Bitterne libraries each day of the strike.
