Derrick Murray

Derrick Murray
Southampton born, Derrick works as a senior accountant, living near the city centre.

He gives voluntary administrative support to the Police, and is a volunteer learning support assistant for adult numeracy at Southampton City College.

He has a special interest in the council's finances.

Ken Darke

Ken knows the Bargate area very well:-

- He was born in the Bargate area

- He lived for a number of years in Coventry Road

- He went to local St Marks school and attended St Marks church

- He even worked in the Polygon Hotel as a waiter

In the rest of his working life Ken joined the merchant Navy in 1957, and progressed to Retail Services Manager and Passengers Services Manager, before he retired early in 1990. He then worked for the British Heart Foundation as a Shop and Area Manager.

Ken was a Southampton City Councillor in Coxford between 2003 - 2007, in that period he took a petition to Downing Street over the closure of local post offices. He has been a member of the Lib Dems for over 10 years. Whilst on the council he served on the Planning and Licensing Panels and on the Environment & Transport Scrutiny Panel.

His main interests outside council work are gardening and D.I.Y.

Bargate is a vibrant area, home to the City Centre. It has the waterfront to the south, Bevois to the north, Freemantle to the west and a population of around 16,600.

Bargate has a lot of terraced housing and flats and is fortunate to have a lot of open space including Mayflower Park and Hoglands Park - home to many large events including the MELA (the most multicultural open space event in Hampshire).

Bargate is the heart of Southampton's retail industry, being home to all city centre shops.
