Liberal Democrats in Southampton Itchen have selected David Goodall to fight the Southampton Itchen at the General Election. The keenly fought selection contest produce a 75% turnout, addressing a packed hustings meeting, David Goodall said :-

"Over ten years of Labour government have created a more unequal society with the 10% of the poorest people to the country paying a higher percentage of their income in tax than the richest 10%. And this under Labour, the working man's party. To correct this tax must not be lower or higher but fairer and all our tax and benefit polices whether on income tax, capital gains tax, low income benefits or local taxes are geared to the one main aim of making the tax and benefits system fairer."

David Goodall, 45, who works at Roke Manor Research, developing the next generation of communication systems, is a school Governor at Townhill Infants and councillor in West End, Southampton, where he lives with his wife and their two children. They go to Bitterne Park Secondary and as a family they regular attend Thornhill Baptist Church.

After the meeting David said, "I am extremely pleased to be the candidate for Southampton Itchen again, as it is an area I have known all my life. Also I would like to thanks all those involved in organising the ballot, as well as my opponent for all his hard work in making it a good contest."

Cllr Gerry Drake, Chair of Southampton Liberal Democrats congratulated David Goodall on being selected. He added: "I am please to be working with David Goodall once again and hope at the next General Election we can improve on the 6.2% increase in the vote which we achieved with David last time."
