Brexit to cost £2,000 million says Government's own report - is it worth it?

That's the question posed by campaigners outside Southampton's Guildhall today, where speakers including Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Southampton Test Thomas Gravatt addressed crowds in front of the 'Brexit - is it worth it?' bus.

'Brexit - is it worth it?' bus in SouthamptonGravatt commented:

"Throughout the referendum campaign in 2016, numerous Brexit-supporting politicians posed in front of the discredited '£350 million for the NHS' slogan, knowing even then that this was a promise they could never deliver, because it simply wasn't true.

"Far from a 'Brexit dividend', the financial cost of leaving the EU is likely to dwarf any savings. And this isn't coming from some anti-Brexit think tank - this is according to the Government's own figures!"

He added:

"The will of the people is changing. Theresa May's Conservatives and Jeremy Corbyn's Labour must accept this, and commit to offering the people a referendum on the deal reached with the EU27.

"The Liberal Democrats believe that democracy didn't end on June 23rd 2016 - the people must have the final say on Brexit, and must be given the opportunity to Exit from Brexit."
