Southampton Liberal Democrats are proud to endorse the Clean Air Manifesto for Southampton.

All sixteen Lib Dem candidates from across the city have pledged to support the aims of the manifesto, if elected on May 2nd.

The proposals made within the document, compiled by Clean Air Southampton and Southampton Friends of the Earth, are designed to achieve the greatest measurable impact on air pollution within the tenure of councillors elected this May.

Local health spokesperson and Portswood candidate James Read comments:

"This manifesto sets out proven, achievable and effective means to reduce air pollution levels across the city by identifying examples already implemented by other cities.

"As our popular Park & Ride campaign has illustrated, residents want to see action to improve our air, and will not be placated by warm words any longer."

Bassett candidate Richard Blackman adds:

"Big problems require bold solutions, and we believe this Clean Air Manifesto presents such measures.

"However, this is not something Southampton Liberal Democrats can do alone. It is highly regrettable that both the Labour Party and the Conservatives have refused to endorse these proposals.

"We call on all parties to endorse the manifesto and back its urgent implementation for the sake of Southampton's health and wellbeing."
