The Conservative MP for Southampton Itchen has drawn citicism for his 'sadly misinformed' views on the impact of Brexit on Southampton from economic experts and commentators, as reported in today's Daily Echo.

Whilst the majority of trade conducted through the Port of Southampton is with non-EU member states, Britain currently has trade deals with those third countries because we are a member of the EU. We will lose these economic benefits if we leave the European Union.

Liz Jarvis for Southampton ItchenLiz Jarvis
, Parliamentary Candidate for Southampton Itchen, commented:

"There is no question that any kind of Brexit will have an impact on jobs not just in Southampton but all over the country.

"The prospect of a no-deal Brexit is already impacting jobs and businesses all over the country, it is irresponsible to pretend otherwise.

"The best way to protect jobs is to remain in the EU."
