Ward Spokesperson

James Read

James Read

Local campaigner James Read, who has lived in Southampton for almost 20 years, works for an insurance company and has been actively campaigning in Portswood for over a decade. He has been endorsed by at least the previous five Lib Dem candidates and councillors for Portswood, and is keen to fight for local residents as part of a Liberal Democrat group on the council.

James is an active campaigner and in recent years has campaigned to improve road & pavement repairs, against fracking in Southampton, to save the cheque book, for better play areas, against fluoride, against Post Office closures, for better public toilets, against charging disabled drivers on Itchen Bridge, against school and social care cuts and against leaving the European Union.

James is especially interested in environmental issues, the economy and, as a former auxilliary nurse, the health service, all of which will be adversely affected by leaving the EU, either with or without a deal. This is why he is actively campaigning for a People's Vote including the option to Remain in the EU. He was one of over a million people to gather in London for the most recent People's Vote march.
