Peter Galton

Peter Galton lives locally in Shirley with his wife Karen and grown up son Graham. His two daughters Victoria and Elizabeth also live near by.

Peter works for a major retail company in Southampton.

Peter has been a Liberal/Liberal Democrat for 36 years. He is a strong supporter of a fairer voting system and the transfer of powers from London to the regions.

Peter was previously a Councillor in Coxford Ward for 16 years. Peter's main interests while a member of the City Council were Licensing, Housing and Leisure. He has campaigned for many improvements to the local area, among the most important being the securing the future of Lordshill Community Centre.

Peter is a keen Saints support, and is a active member of Southampton City Petanque Club, where he has helped past juniors win titles at national level.

Peter has been officially endorsed by campaigning organisation @48PercentPlus because of his support of the UK's continued membership of the European Union.

Ward Information

Shirley ward is in central Southampton and has a population of around 13,900. Neighbouring wards are Bassett, Millbrook, Freemantle, Coxford and Redbridge. The area has a mix of semi detached housing, some terraced housing and also tower blocks. Southampton General Hospital and Princess Anne Maternity hospital are located on the edge of the ward boundary and there is a large shopping area in the ward along Shirley High Street. The ward also contains large green spaces including St James Park and Southampton Common which is a vast green area with a paddling pool area, Hawthorns Urban Wildlife centre, a boating lake and other attractions.
