The Regulator of Social Housing has slammed Southampton City Council’s housing service with a damning C3 rating, highlighting unsafe housing conditions, missed safety inspections, and failures to meet the Decent Homes standard. Tenants are being left in the dark due to poor communication, with no access to performance information, and repairs are plagued by long delays and inefficiency.

Cllr Sam Chapman said:

"This report confirms what tenants have told me for 18 months—Southampton’s housing services are broken. I’ve raised these issues from day one. Apologies aren’t enough. Tenants need action now."

The council must deliver on its improvement plan without delay. Tenants deserve safe, decent homes and a responsive service. I’ll keep holding the council to account until real change happens.
